The name of this town, pronounced Yaler-kavak means “waterside palace with poplars”. It is a quiet town on the edge of a large and beautiful bay. For many years Yalikavak has been one of the most important fishing centres on the Turkish Aegean, home to fleets of fishermen and sponge divers. Yalikavak still combines the ambiance of a hard working fishing town with the recent influence of tourism: cafes, restaurant and bars. The recently modernised town centre has a small shopping precinct in traditional Turkish style with small boutiques and coffee houses.
