Turgutreis (pronounced “tour-gourt-rayce”), is named after the great Turkish Admiral who was born here in the 16th century. Today Turgutreis is the second biggest town on the peninsula and is the main centre for commerce at the western and of the peninsula. Turgutreis has a redeveloped harbour and a brand new marina, which also has a modern shopping mall. The town centre features a large and elegant mosque, an excellent market (Saturday), Turkish-style shopping streets and numerous harbour-side restaurants. To the north and south are miles of sandy public beaches.
