In the golden years of Ephesus, Kusadasi - then Neopolis - was already a holiday resort for the Ephesians.
When the Caystros river dried out, the Byzantines have chosen Neopolis as the new harbor and so Scala Nova became an important commercial center inhabited by Greek, Armenian, Jewish and Italian business men till the end of World War I. Kusadasi was already conquered by the Ottomans in 1413 and became an independent district in 1865. Till 1954 it was bound to Izmir and is today a district of Aydin.

Curiosities : the old village up hill, the Pigeons' Island and its castle, the Kervansaray, the Ottoman city walls and gates, the municipal hamam (XVIth century), the "Kaleici" and the "Hanim" mosque, the aqueduc (behind the Tansas supermarket) and the natural park of Kalamaki (30km).

Night Life Most of the better hotels (5 and 4*) have their own discotheque. But having an evening out in town is for sure more fun.?Kalei?i? (inside of the city walls) is therefore an ideal place : you will find countless discos, bars and restaurants for any taste : European, techno, with Turkish music... One goes to ?Ladies Beach? for a nice dining out and afterwards a walk along the beach. For those who wish a typical Aegean meal, we propose a unique restaurant at 20km from Kusadasi. Namely the ?Degirmen? (Watermills). This house built in the regional style is decorated with antique household items and proposes you, before dinner, to walk through the park : horse stables, lake, small zoo, hanging bridge, coffee house and lots more..
