Marmaris Resort Information

At the floor of pine covered hills, boardering on clear blue seas.....
Marmaris is set in a large natural harbour on the southeast coast of Turkey where the Aegean and the Mediterranean seas meet. The sweeping bay is home to a long stretch of palm fringed sand and the surrounding seas are popular with expensive yachts, modern motor launches and traditional fishing vessels alike.

Things to do in Marmaris

Introduction Video of Marmaris

The history of the area dates back to 3400 BC when it was invaded from Crete. It saw occupation by Persians and Romans before the arrival of the Turks in the 14th century. Today the 16th century grand castle built by the Ottomans still holds a commanding position at the entrance to the harbour.

The harbourside promenade is full of wonderful seafood restaurants each serving their own local specialty of freshly caught fish. There are many fascinating places to visit from this area, especially by sea. Boats leave the harbour each day to visit Dalyan, Turtle Beach and the many small bays, secluded coves and uninhabited islands in the immediate area. A daily fast ferry service will take you to the Greek Islands of Rhodes for a day-trip of sight-seeing.

The town is full of life offering a wide choice of bars, discos, restaurants and bustles well into the small hours. Enter the old quarter with its maze of covered lanes leading to the colourful bazaar and bargain with the traders for local leather goods, carpets, onyx and china. On market days the locals from the surrounding villages bring their goods, handicrafts and fresh produce to town. You will always receive a friendly welcome and be offered a glass of refreshing tea, even if you don?t make a purchase.

ICMELER

For many years Icmeler's reputation has been based on its beach, a wide sweeping sandy bay, and on its proximity to Marmaris. Icmeler has gradually developed into a sophisticated resort in its own right, greener and with a more relaxed atmosphere than its larger neighbour, Marmaris, just 8 km away to the south. The locals are very proud of the reputation the resort has achieved and they work hard to keep up standards by ensuring the beach is swept daily, the flower beds are always colourful and the footpaths are free of litter. The beach is well supplied with sun-beds and umbrellas where you can simply relax and enjoy the sun or participate in one of the many water sports which are available from the bay, kept separate from the swimming areas.

Icmeler has a good cross section of restaurants and lokantas, with their unique style of home cooking, bars and shops. The surrounding scenery is beautiful, reminiscent of the Norwegian Fjords, with steep pine clad hills tumbling virtually into the clear blue waters of the Aegean. An evening stroll along Icmeler beachfront after dinner, along the traffic free promenade, which stretches from the Bay of Icmeler to the Marmaris Marina is highly recommended. Icmeler with its lively atmosphere, cosmopolitan nightlife and shops is an ideal resort for adults and families.
